Cooking with a halogen oven can be an extremely healthy way to cook your food when compared with cooking in conventional methods. The reason for this becomes clear when you understand how the halogen oven functions.
With the edition of a few simple accessories that are designed to be used when cooking with a halogen oven it is easy to remove fat when cooking food and steaming food is very quick and easy too. When cooking whole birds or any meat it is recommended that the low rack accessory is used. The low rack is a round grill that will lift any food that is being cooked off the base of the glass cooking bowl, by lifting the food off the base this creates a space that the fat collects in when it drips from the meat, this fat can then by easily disposed of when the meal has finished cooking. When steaming vegetables in a halogen oven there are a few methods. If your halogen oven did not come with a set of accessories a quick and easy methods is to simple place your prepared vegetables inside a piece of tin foil. Create a pocket there add two teaspoons of water to the packet before sealing it tightly shut. If you are cooking more than one type of vegetable and it is desirable to keep each type of vegetable separate just use more tin foil packets. If you have a steamer tray with your halogen oven, place the tray in the halogen oven and add two teaspoons of water per serving of vegetables, this water will rest on the glass base of the halogen oven cooker. Then place the vegetables on top of the steamer tray to cook. When cooking vegetables use the guide of soft vegetables will need about 15-20 minutes to cook and hard vegetables will require about 30-40 minutes. As a rule if the vegetable take longer to cook conventional i.e. potatoes then they will take longer in the halogen oven.
